School of Radiography
We are
dedicated to supplying our students and
the communities of interest with a
radiography program designed to provide
education in the imaging sciences. This
is accomplished through required
didactic and clinical experiences that a
Level I Trauma Center can provide. We
are further dedicated to graduating
radiographers with knowledge and
clinical experiences to prevail in their
efforts to successfully complete the
ARRT exam and secure employment.
Program Goals:
The student will be able to
demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and
values of a radiographer.
The student will be able to produce
quality diagnostic images.
The student will be able to perform
appropriate patient care techniques.
The student will be able to communicate
effectively with the patient.
The student will be able to display
professional judgment.
The student will be able to demonstrate
critical thinking and problem solving
skills.
What is
Radiography?
It is a science that combines technology
and compassion. Radiographers use their
knowledge of physics, and anatomy to
create permanent medical images.
Program Length
The
program is 24 months long.
Students may only attend on a full-time
basis. The program consists of one week
of class and one week of clinical,
rotating every other week. Most classes
and clinical work will be conducted
during the day, with the exception of
two clinical week rotations from
3-11p.m. and one clinical week rotation
from 11p.m. to 7 a.m.
Starting Date
Classes begin on the last Monday in
June.

$2000 per year for Winnebago, Boone and
Ogle county residents
$2500 per year for all other
Illinois
residents
$3000 per year for all out-of-state
residents
Expenses
$600 - books (covers two years)
$150 per month for dorms as available
$200 to $350 - uniforms, shoes

Prerequisite Courses
The following courses
must be taken at Rock Valley
College or an alternate
college that offers similar courses.
These courses must
be completed with a grade of C or
better before being accepted into the

Admission Policy
Any
person desiring to enroll in the
Rockford Memorial Hospital School of
Radiography is required to submit to the
Program Director the following: An
application with a $15 non refundable
application fee, copies of high school
and or college transcripts (or GED
scores if applicable) and three letters
of reference.
Applicants are sent a notice of receipt
of application. In January, the
applicant will receive notification of
file status, and an application to take
the aptitude test. There is a $20 charge
for the aptitude test. After testing is
complete, applicants who meet the
minimum point value (60 points) receive
a letter to schedule an interview. Those
who did not meet the minimum point
requirement will also be notified by
mail.
During
the interview process, applicants will
spend the morning observing in the
radiology department and will be
interviewed at the end of the morning.
During the interview, each applicant is
asked the same questions and is
evaluated by the interviewers.
After interviews have
been completed, the class is chosen
based on the following criteria*:

(with a score not less than 30
percentile in Academic

Interview Score
Reapplicant 10 point score addition
The 10
students with the highest point values
are admitted to the program.
*Admission to the
School of Radiography is conditional upon
submitting to and satisfactorily passing
a criminal background check, a
pre-admission physical examination and
screening tests.
